  • We hunt in the high country year-round, so mornings and evenings can be cold. In summer, temperatures range from 10 to 25 degrees, with wind chill potentially affecting comfort.

During the winter months, the temperature ranges between 2 and 16 degrees. It can dip well into the negatives so dress warm!

  • Yes, we offer free-range bow hunting opportunities for all species here at Lake Hāwea Station.

  • Animal encounters and unforgettable experiences are certain. However, when it comes to hunting, success depends on your target species and the conditions at the time.

We have an extremely high success rate at Lake Hāwea Station, but there are no guarantees in ethical free-range hunting. We adhere strictly to our game management plan.

On the rare occasion that no suitable animals are located, no animal will be taken.

  • We cater to a wide range of fitness levels.

Some hunts involve walking and covering ground on foot in a proper expedition-style experience. Others may involve staying closer to the side-by-side vehicle, glassing from a distance until the right animal is spotted.

However, once an animal is located, a stalk is always required—and the terrain is not gentle. At a minimum, we recommend having a moderate level of fitness and being confident on your feet in uneven, backcountry terrain.

  • We have a strict no self-guiding policy at Lake Hāwea Station. This ensures our guiding ethos and game management plan are consistently upheld across all hunts on the property.
